Getting Your Booth Ready!

If you're new to selling your wares at craft fairs, let me pass on a little advice! Presentation and preparation make a big difference! You may already have some interesting props at home you can use to dress up your booth - or you can go out in nature and see what you find. Nice bowls or boxes to display soaps, table top wine racks for scarves and socks, beach wood to hang your jewelry, string and clothes pins to hang handmade cards... you're most likely a creative genius who could come up with even better ideas!
If you're looking for serious display furniture - try craigslist or google local store fixtures shops. Portland Store Fixtures has a good selection of used racks, tables, and other display materials. They also have bags, packaging and even credit swipe machines. Check out their website at: www.portlandstorefixtures.com/
Mark out your booth space using masking tape on the floor - make sure you, your chair and your display fit within the space you have reserved. Come up with a plan in mind before you arrive to set up. Do you have a hand mirror? Do you have testers, samples or smaller cheaper sizes or options (think stocking stuffers!) Do you have packaging, tags, bags, even business cards?
The best advice you can get will most likely come from other vendors and don't be afraid to ask. Most people love talking about their own experiences and what's worked and what hasn't.

4x4 Animal Color Blocks

This is a quick and easy project I did to add some color to our play/family room. I painted 4x4 MDF blocks with acrylic paint and used heavy gel medium to add some texture. I then cut animal shapes out of origami paper using a stencil and then pressed the paper shapes into the wet paint and presto - all done!

Transform Altoid Tins into works of art!

If you’re like me and eat breath mints like candy, than you probably have a lot of mint containers and tins laying around.
The How Stuff Works website has a section called Tinnovation. Here you can find numerous ideas to reuse your altoid tins – it’s totally cafty! For example – they have “How To” instructions to make a zen garden, tin belt, key holders and more. One day I’ll post my own attempt at a crafty altoid tin creation! Of course if you have one you’d like to share, please send it to us!
